Though we face many challenges in today’s world, staying active and getting outside is still important. Even though COVID is still an issue in our society, technology is becoming increasingly present and advances are being made at a rapid rate. However, it’s important to be active and keep your body healthy. Northumberland Height wellness retreat in Ontario understands how crucial it is to be active and fit can keep yourself healthy, along with helping to prevent illness for your family.

Now we’re sure you’re wondering how to get the millennials at home excited for fitness. If your family sees you are interested in an activity, they may choose to participate with you. By being active with your kids regularly, you are helping them to develop a healthy lifestyle.

Schedule Regular Fitness Time

You may not be active because you are not accustomed to having time together. Don’t wait too long to establish a daily routine of doing physical activities with your family.

Dedicate 30 minutes per day to working out with your family for a few days each week. When you begin, choose activities for your family to try and see which ones they enjoy the most. You can plan their weekly schedule later on.

Work with your family to set goals in fitness that are realistic and can be attained. If you begin exercising, you may not reach all of your goals at first, but with time and persistence, physical activity will become a normal part of your routine.

Change Your Travel Plans

Our modern lives, characterized by the prevalence of cars and public transportation, make it easy to forget about all the other options for getting around. When you get home from work, park your car and walk with your family instead. Buy a bicycle, scooter, or pair of roller skates so you can get to places by riding instead of always driving.

Although you may have to spend a little extra time getting there, you’ll all have more fun on your trip and sleep better knowing you got a bit of exercise.

Getting the so-called lazy millennials (though they aren’t really that lazy) up a little earlier to walk or bike to college is a great way to wake them up and get some fresh air.

Stop for ice cream after dinner for an extra special treat that your children (of course who aren’t children anymore but ‘millennials’) will love but make sure you reach the ice cream parlor on foot, and not by car.

You can also create a fitness challenge and compete with your family to see who can walk the most steps or miles each month. Why don’t you pin this so that it is always in front of everyone?

Physical Activities That You Can Do With Your Family

You can become more active by having fun fitness activities at home or in the local park.

Home Exercise Ideas

You can get everyone in your family motivated to exercise even if you have a small yard. Hula hooping is a fun way to be active. You only need two hoops for heaps of fun together. Hula hooping is fun, interesting, and gets you moving.

The traditional way you can learn to hula hoop is by wrapping it around your waist, and then as you get more advanced, you can do other things with it like using two or more hoops at a time or moving your arms and legs and whole body along to the music. There are so many different ways to enjoy this toy, it’s hard not to have fun!

You can jump rope at home for a fun activity. Just purchase the jump ropes and you’ll be ready to play! You can compete with the young adults at home in double-under jumps or learn to do them together. Jumping rope is an excellent way to increase stamina, and it will certainly help your entire family a long way.

Spending time doing yoga and stretching with your family can be a fun way to stay active. There are a number of programs that get this generation of ‘millennials’ interested in yoga. Once you get the hang of it, you can use their creativity to work on different poses. If outdoors is unavailable, try lying down in the living room for some stretching.

Get Some Fitness Excursion at The Parks

If you want to inculcate the importance of physical activity along with being playful, opting for parks outdoors is the right decision. Field games are an extremely fun way to get the family moving and working together.

Frisbee golf is a great way to get the family moving. Come up with a few moves that will be fun for you and your family. Try different ways to throw the frisbee, or just keep it basic. If your family is good at catching and throwing, use two frisbees or transition into games that involve frisbees. Everyone, young or old, irrespective of their age can enjoy disc golf.

Family Fitness Outdoors

In the end, there is no substitute for spending time with family and enjoying nature while keeping family fitness as the top priority. You should add more healthy habits to your life so you can spend more time with your family.

Go on a hike with your family and help them enjoy nature. If you are interested in exploring the world around you with those curious young adults in your family, there are activities that will make hiking more fun for their imaginative minds. Go for treasure hunts, or maybe set a goal to walk a certain kilometer and see who wins. Keep tangible offerings for the winners or maybe some cheat diets, so they are motivated to continue the schedule.

By being creative in the way you introduce them to fitness, reaching your family fitness goal will be even more fun for everyone.
